About AI Image Upscaler
When to use it
Enlarge small photos, old scans and screenshots so they stay usable on bigger screens and in print.
What to know
Upscaling cannot invent real detail. Very small or heavily compressed sources will still look soft at 8x.
Pro tip
Upscale the cleanest version of the image you have, and compare before and after with the slider.
Getting the best result from the AI upscaler
This upscaler uses ESRGAN, a neural network trained to rebuild edges and texture when an image is enlarged. Ordinary resizing spreads each pixel over a bigger area, which is why stretched photos look soft. The network instead predicts what the missing pixels probably looked like, so outlines stay crisp and surfaces such as skin, fabric and foliage keep some texture.
The AI does its work on the image at up to 768 px on the longest side (384 px on phones, to save memory). That makes it most useful for small sources: thumbnails, old phone photos, images saved from chat apps and screenshots. A large photo is reduced before the AI pass and brought back to the target size afterwards, so a 3000 px original gains less than a 600 px one.
Choose the factor from where the image is going. 2x is enough for most social posts and slides, 4x suits wallpapers and posters, and 8x is for tiny sources that need to fill a big space. Everything runs on your own device, so the speed depends on your computer or phone rather than on a queue.

AI Image Upscaler: frequently asked questions
- Will upscaling make a blurry photo sharp?
- It sharpens edges and removes the soft look of enlargement, but it cannot recover detail that was never captured. Motion blur and out-of-focus shots improve only a little.
- Is there a limit on how many images I can upscale?
- No. The tool runs in your browser, so there is no daily quota. Very large images take longer on older phones.
- How does AI image upscaling work?
- A neural network (ESRGAN) predicts the missing detail when an image is enlarged, instead of just stretching pixels. It runs on your own device, so the image is not uploaded anywhere, and the first run downloads about 5 MB of AI engine.
- What is the difference between 2x, 4x and 8x?
- The factor multiplies width and height. 4x turns a 1000×1000 image into 4000×4000 (16 times the pixels). Higher factors need cleaner sources to look good.
- What do denoise and color boost do?
- Denoise lightly smooths compression grain before upscaling, and color boost lifts saturation and contrast for flat photos.
- Is there a maximum output size?
- Output is capped at 8192 pixels on the longest side. The AI step works on images up to about 768 px on the longest side (384 px on phones). Larger photos are reduced first and any extra size is added with standard enlargement, so the AI helps most on small or low-quality images.
