About Remove Background from PNG
When to use it
Screenshots, product renders and designs can be cut out, and existing transparency is kept.
What to know
A PNG that already has transparency keeps it. The AI only removes more where it detects background.
Pro tip
For graphics with several separate parts, check that every part survived the cut, and lower the cutoff if pieces go missing.
Removing the background from a PNG
PNGs are usually screenshots, product renders, scans of drawings or exported designs. Because PNG is lossless, edges are already clean, which gives the AI an easy job and a crisp cutout. If the PNG already has transparent areas, they stay transparent: the tool only removes more, never fills anything back in.
Graphics made of several separate parts, such as a logo with a separate tagline or an illustration with floating elements, are the one case to check carefully. The model looks for one main subject and may treat small detached pieces as background. Lower the cutoff if parts go missing.
For flat logos on a plain background, the result is often clean enough to trace into an SVG straight away with the PNG to SVG tool.

Remove Background from PNG: frequently asked questions
- My PNG already has some transparency. Will that be lost?
- No. Existing transparent pixels stay transparent, and the AI only removes additional background around the subject.
- Why did part of my logo disappear?
- Small elements that are separated from the main shape can look like background to the model. Lower the cutoff slider and run again.
- How does the background remover work?
- An AI model (a U²-Net segmentation network) runs in your browser, finds the main subject and removes everything else, including busy or multi-coloured backgrounds. The first use downloads the model (about 44 MB), which your browser then keeps.
- Are my images uploaded?
- No. Processing happens in your browser, so your image stays on your device.
- Why is some background left behind?
- Move the cutoff slider up to remove more, or down to keep more of the subject. Subjects that blend into the background, or have fine hair or glass edges, are the hardest cases.
- What format do I get?
- A PNG with a transparent background, ready for design tools, stores and presentations.
