About Upscale JPG to 8K

When to use it

8K output is about 7680 px wide and very large. Results are capped at 8192 px on the longest side, so sources wider than about 1000 px are scaled to fit the cap.

What to know

JPG is lossy, so existing compression blocks get enlarged along with the picture. Keep denoise around 30-50% to soften them before upscaling.

Pro tip

Use 8x only on small, clean sources. Noisy photos look better at 4x with denoise raised.

Upscaling a JPG to 8K

8K is 7680 × 4320 pixels, four times the area of 4K. An 8x enlargement only makes sense for small sources: a 960 × 540 JPG becomes 7680 × 4320, while a 1024 px image reaches the tool's 8192 px limit. Anything larger is scaled down to fit that cap, so there is no benefit to feeding in big photos.

Each original pixel becomes an 8 × 8 block of 64 pixels, so JPG artefacts are magnified more than at any other setting. Start with denoise around 50% and compare with the slider. If the result looks waxy, lower denoise or step down to 4x, which often looks better on noisy photos.

Typical uses are large-format prints, banners, video projects edited on an 8K timeline and very wide multi-monitor wallpapers. Expect the 8K PNG to be tens of megabytes and to take longer to process, especially on phones.

Upscale JPG to 8K: frequently asked questions

Why is my 8K result smaller than 8x my source?
Output is capped at 8192 px on the longest side to keep files manageable in the browser. A source wider than 1024 px is scaled so the longest side fits that cap.
Is 8x better than running 2x three times?
Not usually. One 8x pass is faster, and repeated passes can amplify artefacts. If one pass looks too smooth, try 4x instead.
How does AI image upscaling work?
A neural network (ESRGAN) predicts the missing detail when an image is enlarged, instead of just stretching pixels. It runs on your own device, so the image is not uploaded anywhere, and the first run downloads about 5 MB of AI engine.
What is the difference between 2x, 4x and 8x?
The factor multiplies width and height. 4x turns a 1000×1000 image into 4000×4000 (16 times the pixels). Higher factors need cleaner sources to look good.
What do denoise and color boost do?
Denoise lightly smooths compression grain before upscaling, and color boost lifts saturation and contrast for flat photos.
Is there a maximum output size?
Output is capped at 8192 pixels on the longest side. The AI step works on images up to about 768 px on the longest side (384 px on phones). Larger photos are reduced first and any extra size is added with standard enlargement, so the AI helps most on small or low-quality images.
