About Upscale PNG to 8K

When to use it

8K output is about 7680 px wide and very large. Results are capped at 8192 px on the longest side, so sources wider than about 1000 px are scaled to fit the cap.

What to know

PNG keeps lossless detail and transparency, which makes it the best source for logos, screenshots and pixel art. The result downloads as PNG.

Pro tip

Use 8x only on small, clean sources. Noisy photos look better at 4x with denoise raised.

Upscaling a PNG to 8K

An 8x upscale is meant for small, clean images that need to fill a very large canvas. A 512 px PNG icon becomes 4096 px, and a 1024 × 576 PNG becomes 8192 × 4608, the most the tool will output. PNG is the best format to start from at this scale, because there are no compression artefacts to blow up.

Expect large files: an 8K PNG can be 30-80 MB. That suits print shops and video editors, but it is too heavy for websites. After upscaling, convert to WebP or JPG if the image is going online.

Fine text and one-pixel lines are the hardest content at 8x, because each source pixel becomes 64 output pixels. For graphics made mostly of text or lines, consider redrawing them or tracing them to SVG instead.

Upscale PNG to 8K: frequently asked questions

Can my browser handle an 8K image?
Most desktop browsers can. On phones the AI step works on a smaller copy (384 px) to save memory and the rest of the enlargement is done with standard resizing, so it still finishes, just with less AI detail.
What print size does an 8K PNG give?
At 300 dpi, 7680 px is about 65 cm (25.6 in) wide. Posters viewed from a distance can be printed much larger.
How does AI image upscaling work?
A neural network (ESRGAN) predicts the missing detail when an image is enlarged, instead of just stretching pixels. It runs on your own device, so the image is not uploaded anywhere, and the first run downloads about 5 MB of AI engine.
What is the difference between 2x, 4x and 8x?
The factor multiplies width and height. 4x turns a 1000×1000 image into 4000×4000 (16 times the pixels). Higher factors need cleaner sources to look good.
What do denoise and color boost do?
Denoise lightly smooths compression grain before upscaling, and color boost lifts saturation and contrast for flat photos.
Is there a maximum output size?
Output is capped at 8192 pixels on the longest side. The AI step works on images up to about 768 px on the longest side (384 px on phones). Larger photos are reduced first and any extra size is added with standard enlargement, so the AI helps most on small or low-quality images.
